Peugeot has been producing the 407 since 2004; it is the successor to the Peugeot 406. The 407 is available as a saloon, a coupe and an estate. On its release the 407 was a runner up for the “European Car of the Year” award, it has a lot to live up to because the 406 was so popular.
The Peugeot 407, along with the larger 607, is scheduled to be superseded by the Peugeot 508 in early 2011 but prior to that the 407 has been given a minor facelift in 2008 to keep it in line with Peugeots design philosophy as well to make sure it does not look aged compared to its competitors.
With the facelift Peugeot also decided to withdraw most of the petrol model variants, there is now one petrol engine the 2.0 ‘Bioflex’ unit with 140bhp designed to run on E85 bio ethanol fuel. There are five turbo diesel models, a 1.6-litre with 110bhp and 180lb ft of torque, a 2.0-litre with 136bhp and 240lb ft, a 2.0-litre with 140bhp and 240lb ft, a 2.2-litre with 177bhp/277lb ft, and a 2.7 litre with 205bhp and 330lb ft.
The 407 has always been priced very competitively against the likes of the Mondeo to persuade buyers to chose the Peugeot over the Fords, Nissans and Fiats of this world.
